The Dark rift
There is a miss conception that there is a mayor extinction event every 26000 years. This is not true. Small extinction events happen on a roughly estimated cycle of 26 million years. Another miss conception is that 90% of all life dies during this cycle, this is also not true, only one extinction event killed off +/- 90% of all life and this happened, give or take a few million years, 230 million years ago. The 26 million years cycle is a much, smaller extinction event cycle. On the 21 of December 2012 we will celebrate an estimated 3 galactic years after life on earth, one galactic year after the big extinction event of +/- 230 million years ago, but this date is only a point of reverence and not an extinction event prediction date.
The last big extinction event happened between 10 000 to 13 000 years ago with the end of the last ice age. During this period all the mega mammals on earth disappeared. Three factors worked as team during this extinction event. 1) Climate Change (moving from cold to warm) 2) A medium size asteroid impact in North America 3) and over hunting by man.
An interesting fact: The modern human specie have survived at least 3 mayor specie ending events 1) Mayor climate change 2) The last super volcano eruption 75 000 years ago and 3) A medium size asteroid impact.
Another interesting fact: Dinosaurs or as we know now ancient birds, lived between +/-230 million to +/-65 million years ago. That is over 6, 26 million year cycles.
Is their any geological proof that crossing the dark rift has result in a pole shift? No there is no geological proof that a sudden pole shift has occurred on a 26 million year or shorter cycle. However most scientist theorizes that pole shift does occur slowly over millions of years and not suddenly, although it is widely accepted that a sudden pole shift can be triggered by a big asteroid impact if the asteroid impact is in the polar areas on earth and a pole shift can occur if a very powerful gravitational force pulls on one of the polar areas.
Will our solar system cross the galactic center? The solar system has crossed the physical location of the Milky Way in 1998, but because of the size of the Milky Way any energy coming from or moving towards the galactic center will only reach us in the time period between 2012 and 2013. We know this because we can see the location of energy with the naked eye, and on the 21st of December 2012 we will be able to see the sun located at the center of the Milky Way, because that is where the energy is located at that point in time.
The great extinction mystery. There where 2 massive extinction events in the past. One +/- 230 million years ago when 90% of all life died and one between +/- 440 and 460 million years ago when 70% of all life on earth died. The big mystery is not just the 2 extinction events themselves but what happened after them. After each of these great extinction events more complex forms of life appeared. Before 440 million years ago only sea life was found on earth but after 440 million years ago insects started to appear. After the 230 million years extinction event Dinosaurs appeared on earth. One would have expected that after an massive extinction events, like the before mentioned, life will take several millions of years to recover, it however does not appear to be the case.
Incompletion: Due to lack of evidence no one can with any clear scientific backing, proof that anything will happen when we cross the theoretical energy belt of the galactic center in 2012 or there after, and any claims of what will happen is only based on speculation. This however does not absolutely proof that nothing will happen either.
